Congrats on getting your new-to-you Ford Fusion! And don’t worry, this is a more common question than you think. A lot of first-time Fusion drivers go to fill up and have to say hang on, where’s the dang button in this thing?
The answer is going to be a real eureka moment for some Fusion drivers, and annoying for others, but here we go: there actually isn’t a gas button in your Ford Fusion. In fact, there isn’t even a gas cap!
Simply walk up to the fuel door and give it a gentle tap. It will push in and pop right out. Some newer cars have this feature, though quite a few cars still rely on gas buttons and levers to get at the fuel tank.
You’ll also notice after opening the fuel door that there’s no gas cap in the Ford Fusion. This is called a capless “Easy Fuel” system where you just start pumping, without having to fiddle with a cap. Weird, but also cool, right?
Why do most cars still have a gas button anyway, if it’s not actually something cars need? Back in the day, people used to steal gasoline from other cars. They still do sometimes, but it used to be a much bigger problem than it is today.
Car companies added these buttons to make it harder to steal gas. And a lot of modern cars still lock the gas cap when the car alarm is activated to prevent people from stealing gasoline.
It’s easy to fill fuel in a Ford Fusion, but not as easy as saving hundreds of dollars per year or more on car insurance
