I’ve lived in Chicago my entire life. However, I never realized that Ford has a plant in the Chicago area, and it certainly piqued my interest. Where is the Ford assembly plant in Chicago?

The Ford Chicago Assembly Plant is located at 12600 South Torrence Avenue, Chicago, IL in the Hegewisch neighborhood of the city. It’s the oldest continuously running Ford factory dating back to Model T production from 1924 to 1928.
In 1928, production switched to the Model A, and just over 10 years later, it became a factory for WWII armored vehicles. Following the war effort, the plant produced trucks—and later—Ford and Mercury sedans.
In 2004, Ford spent over $400 million to modernize the plant and followed that with a $1 billion upgrade in 2019. Today, the company produces the Ford Explorer and the Lincoln Aviator and employs over 4,000 workers.
