, or in need of a little refresher, here’s how those codes break down: - First digit:the part of the car that is impacted
- Second digit: whether the issue is generic or specific to BMW
- Third digit: the specific component that is impacted in your vehicle
- Fourth and fifth digits: the specific trouble code (use your scanner’s code book or online resources to decipher its meaning)
Since you’re looking at some engine troubles in your Beemer, here are some of the most common engine trouble codes you may encounter:
- P0100 to P0199: indicates trouble with your BMW’s air-to-fuel ratios
- P0200 to P0299: indicates trouble with the fuel injector circuit
- P0420 and P0430: indicates trouble with the catalytic converter
