Where is Hyundai headquarters?

I’ve gone on a kick where I’m trying to learn more about where products in America come from to help me buy more American-made. Since I own a Hyundai, I thought that would be a logical place to start. Where is Hyundai based?

Although the company has manufacturing facilities in the United States, Hyundai is based in Seoul, South Korea. Seoul has been its home and headquarters since the founding of the company in 1967, although it only has its corporate offices there and makes vehicles elsewhere.
Despite having 12 manufacturing plants around the globe, however, Hyundai still produces 40% of its vehicles in South Korea at the following plants:
  • Ulsan: The Ulsan factory is one of the largest automotive plants in the world, producing 1.4 million cars annually and employing 34,000 workers across five localized facilities.
  • Asan: Built in 1996, the Asan factory produces 600,000 vehicles a year and employs 4,000 people.
  • Gwangju: Although its the smallest of Hyundai’s plants, the Gwangju facility still has 1,000 workers and constructs 70,000 cars per year.
