Chrysler originated in the Detroit neighborhood of Highland Park in 1925 after the Maxwell Motor Company suffered financial issues and was purchased by Walter Chrysler. The company maintained offices and manufacturing plants in the Detroit area until the 1990s when it moved its operations to the nearby Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills.
Since that time, Chrysler has been purchased by Daimler in 1998, Fiat in 2014, and Stellantis in 2021. Moreover, all Chrysler cars have been built in Canada for the past decade or so. While Chrysler seems American on the surface, only its headquarters in the Detroit area remain—everything else is foreign.
