When you're driving near a road construction zone, what should you do?

What precautions should I take when I’m entering a work zone? I know that there are probably specific things that I’m supposed to do, but I’m not really sure what they are. I want to make sure that the workers are all safe, and that I’m safe too!

It’s great that you’re taking some time to learn more about this! When you’re driving near a road construction zone, you should try to do the following:
  1. Pick a lane and stick to it until you leave the construction zone.
  2. Remain alert to any signals, signs, or workers trying to give you instructions.
  3. Apply your brakes gently so that the car behind you is aware that you’re slowing down.
  4. Try to stick to the flow of traffic by matching your speed to the person in front of you.
  5. If the person in front of you is speeding over the work zone speed limit, you should
    follow the posted speed limit
in order to keep yourself and the workers safe.
