When did Chrysler buy Jeep?

I’ve always been a fan of Jeep, but I admittedly don’t know much about the company itself. I know it was part of a few mergers and acquisitions decades ago involving Chrysler, but that’s about it. When was Jeep purchased by Chrysler?

Chrysler
bought Jeep in 1987. At the time, Jeep wasn’t an independent company—it was a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Motors Corporation (AMC). After purchasing AMC and the Jeep nameplate, Chrysler also launched the short-lived
