Road trips are an amazing way to see the country and a total blast! The best route from
Kentucky
to California
takes historic Route 66. It covers roughly 2,307 miles over 34 hours, not including stops.Here are the basics of the trip:
- Get on I-75 N from Lost Fork Rd and KY-627 S
- Follow I-64 W, I-44 and I-40 W to CA-58 W in Barstow. Take exit 179 from I-15 S
- Get on CA-58 W/CA-99 N in Bakersfield
- Follow CA-99 N to Merritt Dr in Traver. Take exit 106B from CA-99 N
- Take Rd 44/Brewer Dr, Rd 48, Rd 52, S Reed Ave and S Piedra Rd to your destination in Fresno County
Route 66 is filled with spectacular things to see and do. Here are some of the must-sees along the way:
- Meramec Caverns—Sullivan, Missouri
- Pops—Arcadia, Oklahoma
- Tower Station and U-Drop Inn Cafe—Shamrock, Texas
- Cadillac Ranch—Amarillo, Texas
- Petrified Forest National Park and the Painted Desert—Arizona
- Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch—Oro Grande, California
- Original McDonald’s Museum—San Bernardino, California
- Santa Monica Pier—Santa Monica, California
