What's the best driving route from San Diego to Reno?

I live in San Diego and I usually go to Las Vegas for my summer vacation. This year, I wanted to do something a little different, so I booked a hotel in Reno. What’s the best route from San Diego to Reno?

If you’re tired of Las Vegas,
Reno
is a nice alternative with many of the same amenities. The trip from
San Diego
is roughly 600 miles and about 9.5 hours. Here’s the best driving route from San Diego to Reno:
  • Hop on I-15 North out of San Diego.
  • Near Riverside, take exit 52B for I-215.
  • I-215 will eventually merge back into I-15.
  • Take exit 141 for US-395.
  • Near the Nevada-California border, US-395 will turn into CA-182. Continue on this road.
  • CA-182 turns into NV-338 once you cross into Nevada.
  • Stay left on NV-338 to hop onto NV-208.
  • Get back on US-395 North.
  • Take I-580 near Carson City.
  • Take exit 36B of I-580 for I-80 West until you’re finally in Reno!
