With fuel prices on the rise, I’m dead-set on buying a Ford Escape Hybrid next month, but I’m still unsure about the model year. Is the 2021 Ford Escape hybrid better than the 2020 model?

The 2020
Ford Escape Hybrid
is a great option for the environmentally conscious driver. However, the 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid
offers a new plug-in hybrid option that increases the car’s overall fuel efficiency. Starting at $29,000 the 2020 Ford Escape offers a 2.5-liter iVCT Atkinson-cycle engine paired with an electric motor. The Escape’s hybrid powertrain offers drivers 44 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on the highway.
The 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid, on the other hand, introduced a plug-in hybrid option. For $27,605, the 2021 Escape is powered by the same 2.5-liter Atkinson engine as the 2020 Escape, though the new model’s plug-in electric motor grants the SUV with 37 miles of all-electric range.
Considering only the price and fuel-efficiency of the two models, the 2021 Ford Escape PHEV is cheaper and more fuel-efficient than the 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid.
