What will happen if I'm pulled over and the insurance card in my car is expired?

I have current car insurance, but the insurance card I keep in my car is expired. What happens if I'm pulled over?

If you’re pulled over with only the expired
car insurance
card, you’ll probably get a ticket. The officer has no way of knowing if you really do have car insurance without the valid paperwork.
To get your ticket dismissed, you’ll have to appear in court with proof of insurance.
In some areas, police have the right to impound your vehicle if you can’t show proof of
insurance
. In this case, even if your ticket is dismissed later, you’ll still have to pay the towing fee.
To get a new insurance card, log on to your insurance company’s website or call customer service.
