What speed is considered reckless driving in Hawaii?

I’m renting a convertible on my upcoming trip to Hawaii to enjoy the island air while I cruise down the highway. I don’t want to take too much risk, though. How fast is considered reckless driving in Hawaii?

Hawaii
is a beautiful place to visit and enjoy some scenic drives—just so long as you aren’t going too fast. There are two classifications for speeds considered reckless driving in Hawaii:
  • Any speed 30 MPH or more over the posted speed limit
  • Any speed 80 MPH or higher
If you’re caught driving in either of these speeding classifications while cruising the islands, you can be charged with a reckless driving misdemeanor carrying the following penalties:
  • Jail time of up to 30 days
  • Fines of up to $1,000
Nothing can put a damper on your trip more than a hefty fine or jail time, so consider taking some time to enjoy Hawaii’s views instead. Not only will avoiding the urge to speed help you stay out of hot water with Johnny Law, but you’ll stay in good favor with your insurance provider, too.
