What should I do if my Chrysler Town and Country’s siding door won't open automatically?

We have a Chrysler Town and Country that we love, but the automatic sliding door stopped working recently. It’s making our family trips a bit inconvenient. What could be the issue here?

Minivans have a lot of great qualities, and an automatic sliding door is one of them—but it won’t do you much good if it doesn’t work! Two of the most common reasons your door won’t open are if the child lock is activated or your
key fob
battery is dead.
If those aren’t the culprits, here are a few reasons why your Chrysler Town and Country’s sliding door won’t open automatically:
  • Your door latch motor is dead
  • Your door latch cable is broken
  • The electrical wiring is overloaded or malfunctioning
  • The
    door latch
    is jammed
  • The door’s track is obstructed
  • The bracket connecting the door to the track is bent
  • Your electronic module control is malfunctioning
In any of these cases, it’s best to take your Town and Country to a Chrysler dealership and let them diagnose and fix the issue. Taking it into your own hands may cause further damage, leading to expensive repair bills.
Even so, your expenses may be spared if your sliding door was damaged in a car accident. As long as you have
collision coverage
on your
Town and Country car insurance
policy, the bill should be covered—after you pay your deductible, of course.
