Your mechanic may recommend that you upgrade to an extended performance synthetic oil, or perhaps a synthetic blend. This will cost extra, but rest assured—it’s not an attempt to rip you off.
Synthetic oil is better for your engine than conventional oil. Although conventional oil (i.e., mineral oil) can provide adequate lubrication performance, it can’t compete with the overall engine performance and protection provided by synthetics.
It’s really up to you which oil you choose. Just keep in mind that if you opt for conventional oil, you’ll have to get your oil changed more often. Synthetic oil, on the other hand, allows you to put more miles on your vehicle before scheduling your next maintenance.
