What is the starburst effect when driving at night?

I’ve been seeing starbursts around lights when I drive at night and it’s starting to worry me. Is there anything that I can do about this to make me a safer driver?

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having problems with this. If you see this starburst effect every time you drive at night, it could be caused by astigmatism in your eyes or another eye problem. It’s best to talk to your eye doctor about the problems that you’re experiencing so that you can get a prescription that helps you to see more clearly.
In the meantime, try to take it slow when driving at night to give yourself an increased reaction time. Also try to avoid looking directly at light sources, like the
headlights
of oncoming cars.
