What is the speed limit in Georgia?

I’m driving to Georgia to visit my parents for a few weeks, and I want to familiarize myself with the driving laws before going. What are the speed limits on Georgia roads?

Familiarizing yourself with the driving laws in
Georgia
is a great idea to stay safe on the road. Unless otherwise posted, the speed limits in Georgia are as follows:
  • 30 mph in urban or residential areas
  • 35 mph on unpaved county roads
  • 70 mph on rural interstates
  • 65 mph on urban interstates or a multi-lane divided highway
  • 55 mph in all other areas
While speeding may be prohibited in Georgia, did you know that driving too slowly is, too? Drivers are prohibited from operating a vehicle at such a slow speed as to interfere with the normal and reasonable flow of traffic, except when a reduced speed sign is posted.
But if you’re caught exceeding the speed limit, here’s what you can expect to pay for a first offense:
  • 1 to 4 mph over the posted limit: $0
  • 5 to 10 mph over the posted limit: $25
  • 11 to 14 mph over the posted limit: $100
  • 15 to 18 mph over the posted limit: $125
  • 19 to 23 mph over the posted limit: $150
  • 24 to 33 mph over the posted limit: $500
And there’s also the
Georgia Super Speeder
ticket—an additional $200 fine issued on top of a regular speeding violation for any driver going over 75 mph on a two-lane road or 85 mph on a highway or road with more than two lanes.
Although a fine may not seem like the worst penalty, a speeding ticket can affect your insurance rates. The average insurance rate increase after a Super Speeder is about $1,000 yearly. But luckily,
