My 14-year-old daughter wants to get a learner’s permit, but we just moved to Utah and I haven’t had time to get familiar with the state’s license requirements. What’s the driving age in Utah?

What an exciting time in your daughter’s life! The driving age in
Utah
is 15 years old for a learner permit.A Utah learner permit allows teenagers to operate a vehicle only with an approved instructor or licensed legal guardian in the front seat. To get a learner permit, your daughter will need to:
- Bring the required documents to a local Driver License office.
- Pass a vision test
- Pass a written knowledge test
To study for the big knowledge test, tell your daughter to use the Utah Driver Handbook to learn all about road signs and the rules of the road.
After holding a learner license for six months, she can then apply for a regular driver’s license. In order to obtain her license, she must first:
- Complete a driver’s education course
- Complete a Highway Safety and Trends exam
- Complete 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training
- Complete 6 hours of driving observation
- Practice 40 hours of driving (including 10 hours at night) with a parent or legal guardian
- Pass the driving skills test
