What is the driving age in Oklahoma?

My young son is already eager to start driving, and he’s asking about a learner’s permit, but we’re new to Oklahoma and don’t know the license requirements just yet. What’s the driving age in Oklahoma?

What an exciting rite of passage for your son! The driving age in
Oklahoma
is 15 ½ years old for a learner’s permit, and your son must apply in person at a local driver exam site with all the necessary documents. Once he passes his vision and written exam, your son will get his learner’s permit and soon be ready for the road.
Your son also has the option to take the written exam at the Career Tech Testing Center but he’ll still need to visit the exam site for the vision test and to be issued his permit. The written test is based on the Oklahoma DPS Handbook study guide which goes over essential road signs and driving rules for new drivers. If your child is between 15 ½ and 16 years old, you must also bring proof that he is enrolled in a formal driver’s education course (including parent-taught driver’s education).
To move onto an intermediate license, your son must:
  • Hold his learner’s permit for six months
  • Practice 50 hours of driving (including 10 hours at night)
  • Pass the driving skills exam
The final step would be the unrestricted license that your son can get after holding his intermediate license for six months with no traffic convictions on his driving record.
After your son gets his driver’s license, consider getting him his own car insurance or add him to
your current policy
