What is the difference between a 2022 Honda Civic LX and EX?

My wife and I are feeling charitable, so we’ve decided to buy a new Honda Civic for our son, who’s a high school senior. He’s got excellent grades, and we’re hoping this will encourage him to be a little more independent. So, what’s the difference between a 2022 Honda Civic LX and EX?

The 2022
Honda Civic LX
is the base level of the Civic’s five trim levels and comes with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, while the
Honda Civic EX
is the mid-tier trim level and comes with a peppier, turbocharged 1.5-liter 4 cylinder engine.
No matter the 2022 Civic your son drives, he’ll have a good time—this model is renowned for its deft handling and fun-to-drive nature, its excellent fuel economy, ample cargo space, and easy-to-use infotainment system.
That said, the Honda Civic LX and EX are not created equally.
The Honda Civic LX is the base trim, and features the following:
  • 2.0-liter four cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque
  • Continuously variable transmission (CVT)
  • 16-inch steel wheels
  • LED headlights
  • Push-button ignition
  • Auto climate control system
  • 7-inch infotainment screen
  • Partially digitized instrument panel
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability
  • Four-speaker sound system
If you really like your son and want to reward him with the mid-tier Honda Civic EX, here’s what’s in store for that ‘lil lad of yours:
  • More powerful, turbocharged 1.5-liter four cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Sunroof
  • Heated side mirrors
  • Heated front seats
  • Dual-zone climate control system
  • Rear center armrest with cupholders
  • Extra USB charge port
  • Blind-spot monitoring
No matter the trim level you choose, both the LX and EX have the following driver-assist technology:
  • Forward collision mitigation
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automatic high beams
  • Driver attention monitor
