The best winches for the
Ford Ranger
are widely considered to be the Warn ZEON Series electric winch and the Smittybilt XRC Gen 2. These two electric winches both have the pulling capacity to handle the Ranger, and are from some of the most reliable winch manufacturers on the market. The Warn ZEON series electric winch is by far the pricier of the two, with prices ranging between $1,085 and $1,535 for the part, but certain parts of the winch do come with a lifetime warranty. Their 12-volt DC electric motor is quieter and better dissipates heat to keep the rope shipshape. And, with this model, you’ll choose synthetic rope or steel cable. Plus, their sealing technology helps keep all kinds of off-road debris and water out, ensuring that your winch will hold up even on the rockiest and muddiest of roads.
If you’re shopping on a budget, though, you may prefer the Smittybilt XRC Gen 2, which are available for purchase for $380 to $800. Like the Warn ZEON, the Smittybilt XRC Gen 2 is a front-mounting winch that’s relatively straightforward to install and includes a remote. While the Warn ZEON comes with more bells and whistles, the Smittybilt XRC Gen 2 is a great option for those who just want something that will give them peace of mind in a pinch.
While winch shopping for your Raptor, you must keep your truck’s weight specifications in mind. After all, what use is a winch if it can’t help pull your truck in a pinch? For Ford Rangers with model years between 1983 and 2011, use at least an 8,000 lb winch. For anything newer than 2011, you will need a winch with at least 9,500 lb capacity.
