What is Allstate’s low-mileage discount?
We live right downtown, and we mostly drive on the weekends (very rarely on weekdays). I was thinking about asking for a lower insurance rate since we don’t drive much—does Allstate offer a low-mileage discount?

Allstate’s
low-mileage discount offers a break on car insurance
to people who don’t drive much. Other providers, like USAA
and State Farm
, do the same.The amount your insurance will be discounted varies by provider, the number of miles you drive, and more.
Here’s how low-mileage discounts typically work:
- Traditional low-mileage discount: Some companies use the traditional method of simply asking customers about their annual mileage. If it’s low enough—usually below 7,500 miles, they may qualify for a discount.
- Telematics discount: Many companies, including Allstate, use telematics to track driver behavior and mileage. Data is used to determine whether you get a discount.
- Pay-per-mile insurance: Many companies are moving to pay-per-mile or usage-based insurance. At Allstate, it’s called Milewise. Under these programs, you pay an established rate but only for the number of miles you drive.
