What if auto insurance wants to use aftermarket parts on a brand new car?
How do I get OEM parts for my vehicle? My 2018 BMW was damaged in an at-fault accident and GEICO wants to use aftermarket parts to replace the bumper.

will calculate the cost of returning the vehicle to its exact condition before the accident. Because aftermarket parts are cheaper and comparable to OEM, or original equipment manufacturer parts, they may want to use these instead. You can talk to an agent or your claims adjuster at

. If the car is brand new, you could make a case that only the OEM bumper would restore it to its original value. While they may not approve it, it’s always worth the ask. You could also have the body shop order the OEM bumper for you. You’ll likely have to pay the difference in cost, but it would allow you to replace the bumper with the type of part you want.
