What happens when you run out of gas?

The cost of gas is far too high, so I often put it off for as long as I can. Thankfully, I’ve never run out of gas before, but I’m curious about it. What happens when your car runs out of gas?

If you run out of gas
, your car won’t function and you’ll be stranded wherever you are. However, several other things can happen to your vehicle as a result of running out of gas, too.
When you run out of gas, your car may experience:
  • Intermittent power surges
  • Engine sputtering
  • Vehicle stalling
  • Difficulty turning and braking as both power steering and braking systems lose power
  • Fuel injector clogging
  • Potential fuel pump damage as it attempts to work without proper lubrication
Of course, you can avoid running out of gas by filling your car regularly. Just a few extra bucks can save you time and hassle. If you run out of gas, pull over, turn on your hazards, and call a friend or tow truck to help you out.
