What happens to my car in an accident when I have full coverage?

"I want to know what would happen to my car if I was hit or if I hit someone else. I have full coverage, so would my vehicle be protected either way? Would my insurance rate go up?"

“When you have full coverage, or
comprehensive insurance
and
collision insurance
, your vehicle is protected from accidents regardless of fault.
If you rear end someone and damage both vehicles, your collision insurance would cover your damages and your
liability car insurance
would cover the other driver’s injuries or damages.
If someone hit you, their insurance would cover your injuries or damages. If they didn’t have enough coverage or were uninsured, your collision insurance may help cover the damage.
Whether your insurance rates will change depends on the carrier. Some insurance companies rate accidents, whether at fault or not at fault, negatively. Some carriers are more lenient for not at fault accidents.
If your rate does increase after an accident, you can shop around to find a more affordable rate using an online comparison tool like
