What happens if you don't file a police report after an accident in New York?

I was in an accident and didn't file a police report. The damage to the other driver's car is going to cost $900 to repair and my car will need repairs as well. Will I get a ticket for not reporting the accident?

“Since the damage to the other driver’s car is $900 and your car also needs repairs, you should report the accident. Depending on when the accident occured, you may not face any consequences, but it’s better to report it as soon as possible.
In
New York
, you have to file a police report after an accident within 10 days, but only if the total damage to all vehicles exceeds $1,000. If you don’t file a report, the state can
suspend your license
until they receive it, and you may be charged with a misdemeanor.
If the damage to your vehicle is under $1,000 and no one was injured, you don’t have to file a police report. However, you should still exchange information with the other driver and take pictures of the damage. Even if you aren’t required to submit a police report, it can still be beneficial. Police reports can help determine fault as well as provide proof of what happened in an accident.
After an accident, your car insurance rates may increase. At this point, you may want to shop and compare car rates. Use the
