What happens if I'm caught driving with a suspended license?
I have a suspended license after getting too many points on my license. Public transportation is limited where I live, so I really have no way to get to work. I’ve been thinking about driving anyway. What happens if I get caught going to work on a suspended license?

We’re sorry to hear that you’re having problems getting to work. Driving on a suspended license is never a good idea. If you’re caught driving with a suspended license, your penalties will vary from state to state, but expect:
- A misdemeanor charge on your permanent record
- Possible jail time (up to 364 days in most states)
- Fines that can reach into the thousands of dollars
- Further suspension of your license
All of these penalties are just for a first-time offense. If you continue to drive without a license, you face felony charges in some states, which can impede your ability to get a job and have far-reaching effects for the rest of your life.
If public transportation isn’t an option, try one of these solutions until
your license is reinstated
:- Ask a coworker or family member for a ride
- Use a bicycle or a rented scooter (Lime or Bird)
- Use a rideshare service
- Leave early and walk to work
