What happens if I don't renew my car insurance by accident?

I forgot to renew my car insurance this month. How long do I have to renew after the expiration date?

“When your

policy is up for renewal, the company should send you a letter with your new insurance card and an updated premium. Most of the time, car insurance is renewed automatically.

If your insurance is not set up for automatic renewal or if you don’t make the first payment, the insurance company typically gives you a grace period—anywhere from a week to 30 days—to renew your policy and continue your coverage.

Once that grace period is up, they will cancel your policy and you’ll have to shop around for new coverage. Check your policy or contact an agent to learn about your insurance company’s renewal guidelines.”
