What happens if car oil touches electricity?

My plug-in hybrid uses both fuel and electricity. I’m not sure if oil is a good conductor, but what happens if car oil touches electricity?

The simple answer is that motor oil is a bad conductor. If car oil touches electricity, not much would happen. Lubricants are usually only slightly conductive. But some oils can conduct an electric current.
The conductivity of oil lubricants depends on:
  • The base oil
  • Other additives
  • The temperature
  • Contaminants
Aside from that,
hybrids
are very well made. If you’re concerned about a fire or problems that may result from the interaction of car oil and electricity, you should know that it’s unlikely. However, it doesn’t hurt to have a car insurance policy that helps to ease your worry.
