What does your vehicle’s temperature light or gauge warn you about?

My vehicle’ temperature light came on and I don’t have money to fix anything right now. I am hoping that it doesn’t mean anything important. What does your vehicle’s temperature light or gauge warn you about?

While it is understandable that when money is tight, it is hard to service your car, this is something you will want to be checked. Your vehicle’s temperature light or gauge warns you that the engine is getting hotter than the cooling system can handle.
This can lead to your engine overheating and burning out on the road. If this happens while driving, shut off all non-essential features of the car, like the radio and air-conditioning, and immediately pull over to a safe space.
Most of the time, you will need to check your coolant level and add more if it looks like it is running low. If your coolant level looks fine, call a mechanic for help.
