I was reading an article about electric cars and it kept referring to EVs. What does “EV” mean for electric cars?

It’s actually pretty simple—EV simply stands for “electric vehicle,” but it can refer to more than cars. An EV is any vehicle that has an electric battery in lieu of a gasoline-powered tank, and can include electric cars such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

EVs can also be things like buses, trucks, and electric bicycles.
