How to change the radio on a 2015 Nissan Altima

Though it may seem like swapping out your car’s stereo seems like a job for a professional mechanic, the process is relatively straightforward and DIY-friendly. Before taking things apart, you’ll need a Phillips screwdriver and a dashboard remover tool. Then, follow these steps to swap your original radio out for the aftermarket stereo of your choice!

1. Remove the bezel and unscrew the radio

You'll find a silver bezel on the front of the radio in a 2015 Nissan Altima, or the border. Use the dashboard removal tool to pop the silver bezel out of its place on both sides of the radio.

After you’ve taken the bezel off, you’ll notice three screws on either side of the radio. Take your Phillips screwdriver and remove all six screws to prep your original radio for removal.

2. Remove the A/C unit and A/C vents

Before the radio can actually come out of its place, you’ll need to remove the A/C unit and A/C vent that sits under the stereo.

Keep your screwdriver out to unscrew the unit and pop out the vent. Set these aside for now and be sure to put the removed screws in a safe place where they won’t roll away!

3. Remove the radio’s mounting screws

With the AC unit and vent out of the way, you can once again work on getting the radio out. You’ll have to remove two sets of mounting screws, securing the radio at the top and bottom of the stereo unit.

4. Uninstall the radio

Once the mounting screws are out, you should be able to slide the OEM radio out from its place and disconnect the attached cables. And that’s it! Your new aftermarket stereo now has a new home!

But keep in mind that some aftermarket radios will require more or different connections than those of the OEM radio. You may need to bring your Altima to a professional automotive sound system tech to ensure proper installation.
