What can you do to prevent flood damage? I live in Louisiana and my house has already been damaged by two major storms. I desperately want to protect it from whatever comes next.

Here are some of the best preventative measures:
- Maintain water runoff and drainage. Keeping your gutters clean is a big chore, but it will ensure that rainfall slides off your roof and stays away from your home.
- Improve the landscape. Ensuring that your landscape allows water to flow away from your home is an easy way to prevent pooling and water buildup on your property.
- Reduce hard surfaces around your house. Building materials like concrete or asphalt will force water away, but they may end up flooding the sewers! Try planting greenery around your home. Plants will retain water, preventing the sewers from overflowing and keeping your home safe.
