Congrats on possibly getting a new truck! Let’s take a quick tour through known issues with the 2018 Ford F-150. And let’s preface it with some good news: they aren’t related to the diesel engine.
Ford had an optional 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine available with some trims for the 2018 to 2021 model years. But according to Ford, their Power Stroke diesel was halted due to lagging diesel sales, largely because their EcoBoost V6 was too popular for the diesel to compete.
Ford’s older 3.0L diesel did have a number of issues, namely with crankshaft bearings, but this issue wasn’t reported on a noticeable scale with the Power Stroke diesel between 2018 and 2021.
Having said that, there were some issues with the 2018 F-150, though, including:
Brake master cylinder issues
Engine control modular (ECM) issues
Doors and tailgate not latching properly
Various transmission issues
The 2018 Ford F-150 was a great truck all around. But while it did have its fair share of technical issues, the Power Stroke diesel engine wasn’t especially problematic.
