What are moving violations in Florida?

I’m following some friends to Florida with a big move next week! They keep talking about how strict the cops are with moving violations, but I don’t know what that means. What counts as a moving violation there?

A moving violation isn’t unique to Florida—you’ve probably just been calling them something different! Moving violations in Florida include any traffic infraction committed while operating your vehicle. For example,
reckless driving in Florida
would be charged as a moving violation.
The following infractions would also be considered moving violations in Florida:
  • Speeding
  • Driving under the influence (DUI)
  • Turning or changing lanes without signaling
  • Disobeying traffic signs
  • Driving without a valid license
As long as you’re following the rules of the road, you should be able to avoid a Florida moving violation. If you need some extra motivation, keep in mind that a moving violation will result in
driver violation points and high insurance rates
. If you still get stuck with a violation on your record, you can still find affordable
