sounds like a great time—it’s a state full of adventure for everyone. But knowing the speed limit is essential if you’re getting behind the wheel of a car. In Alaska, the speed limits are as follows:- 15 mph in alleys
- 20 mph in business districts
- 25 mph in residential areas
- 55 mph on all other roadways
Speed limits on interstates (A-1 to A-4) are 65 mph.
For anyone with a heavy foot in Alaska, speeding will cost you both driving points and a fine. Speeding fines will run you between $100 and $300, but these fines double for drivers speeding in highway work zones or traffic safety corridors. You will receive driving points depending on the circumstances of your speeding violation:
- 3 to 9 mpg over posted limit: 2 points
- 10 to 19 mpg over posted limit: 4 points
- 20 mph or more over posted limit: 6 points
- In a school zone or playground crosswalk: 6 points
