What is the penalty for registration suspension due to lapsed insurance in Nevada?
I live in Nevada. I didn’t know that my insurance lapsed for a day, and it resulted in the suspension of my registration. I’m on a fixed income, and I’m worried it’s considered highway robbery with a $500 fine.

can lapse accidentally. Since Nevada doesn’t have a grace period, your registration can be suspended, even for a one-day lapse in insurance. I know it can be difficult on a fixed income, but you’ll have to pay a fine and show
proof of current insurance
to reinstate your registration. While it isn’t highway robbery, the cost of your fine will depend on whether this is your first offense or not and the length of time your insurance lapsed. If this is your first offense with a one-day insurance lapse, your reinstatement fee is $250. However, if it’s your second offense within five years, you will have to pay a $500 fee. A third offense within five years will result in a $750 fine, a 30-day license suspension, and
SR-22 insurance
. Beyond the reinstatement fees, you may also be subject to additional fees for processing from the DMV. To avoid a lapse of insurance in the future, consider setting up auto-pay. Typically, auto-pay will automatically renew your insurance before it expires.
