Is visible damage to my roof necessary to get coverage after a storm?
A rainstorm caused my roof to start leaking and there's some water damage to my living room. The insurance adjuster told me that my carrier will cover the repairs only if there's visible damage to the roof. Unfortunately, I can't find any noticeable signs of damage, like missing shingles. Is what the adjuster said true?

Unfortunately, this is true. Home insurance normally covers weather events that can damage the exterior of your home, such as a windstorm or hail. But home insurance will not cover
wear and tear
or lack of maintenance. If the wind had done damage to your roof by creating a hole for the rain to leak in, that would typically be covered as a weather event or peril. But if the adjuster cannot find any damage to your roof that was caused by the weather, there would be no justification to cover the water in your living room.
