Is the car insurance company required to notify me that I need a SR22?

I got a ticket for not having car insurance. I went to court, paid the fine, got insurance, and thought it was all done. I got pulled over again and my license is suspended! I had no idea I needed an SR22. Why didn’t the insurance company tell me when I got the policy?

“That is a challenging situation to be facing. Unfortunately, it is not the insurance company’s responsibility to discover that you require an
SR22 form
or notify you that you require an SR22.
This should have been communicated to you by the court and the motor vehicle bureau in your state.
The SR22 is a “certificate of financial responsibility” proving that you are carrying the minimum coverage requirements in your state. The insurance company usually files this form with the state on your behalf as a courtesy to you. There can be a small fee associated with it, usually around $25.
You can still get
cheap car insurance
, even with an SR22. Not all carriers offer this form, so it is good to check for
car insurance quotes online
to find the best options. “
