Is New Jersey an at-fault state?

My family and I are moving to New Jersey later this year, and I’m trying to look into all the most important state laws before we leave. Is New Jersey an at-fault state?

That’s great that you’re preparing ahead of time! No, New Jersey is not an at-fault state.
Instead, New Jersey is a no-fault state. That means if you get into a car accident in the Garden State, each driver’s insurance will pay for their own damages, regardless of who is at fault. That’s why New Jersey law requires all drivers to purchase $15,000 in
personal injury protection (PIP)
per person and per accident.
This is in contrast to at-fault states, in which the at-fault driver’s insurance company is responsible for paying for the other party’s damages.
Since more coverage is required, drivers in no-fault states usually end up paying higher rates for insurance. But you can easily save on
