Is Mitsubishi’s 10-year warranty transferable?

My friend is offering to sell me his 2-year-old Mitsubishi, and he claims it will still have the balance of the 10-year powertrain warranty when I take ownership. Is that true?

Mitsubishi’s
10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty only applies to the car’s original owner.
While the powertrain limited warranty is non-transferable, you will receive the balance of the rest of Mitsubishi’s substantial warranty coverage, which includes:
  • 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty
  • 7-year/100,000-mile anti-corrosion/perforation limited warranty
  • 5-year/60,000-mile restraint system warranty
  • 5-year/unlimited-mileage roadside assistance
