Is lane splitting legal in Texas?
I’m moving to Texas soon and my friend said to watch out because driving there is like a whole other world. She doesn’t know about any laws in particular, but I’m curious: is lane splitting in Texas legal? It makes me anxious so I hope the answer is no.

For now, you can take a deep breath and relax: lane splitting is illegal in Texas.
Drivers in Texas are required to keep their vehicles within a single lane of traffic on roads that are divided into two or more lanes. The only state that explicitly allows lane splitting is California, but lane splitting is currently pending in the California Senate Transportation Committee.
Texas Senate Bill 273 could stand to benefit Texas motorists by changing lane splitting laws. While it may seem like motorcyclists are not “waiting their turn” or “staying in line”, lane splitting can be helpful in slow-moving or congested traffic. Both motorcyclists and drivers move a little quicker when a biker splits the lane.
