Is lane splitting legal in Maryland?

I’m moving to Maryland to go to grad school. While I have a car, my main source of transportation is going to be my motorcycle to save money on gas. However, I’m not familiar with Maryland motorcycle laws. Can I lane split in Maryland?

Lane splitting is illegal in Maryland pursuant to §21–1303 of Maryland’s Code of Transportation. This states that every vehicle is entitled to its own lane and that no motorist—both drivers of cars and motorcycles—can overtake another vehicle in the same lane.
If you’re caught, you face a $110 fine plus one
point on your license
. However, if lane splitting contributes to an accident, **the fine is bumped up to $150 plus 3 points on your license, plus an increase in your
motorcycle insurance
rates.
