Is it safe to drive with a cracked windshield?

I hopped into my car this morning and I noticed a crack starting to develop on the passenger’s side of the car. It’s small right now, but I’ve always heard that a cracked windshield is dangerous. Can I drive with a cracked windshield or is it unsafe?

It’s not necessarily unsafe to drive with a small crack in the windshield, but you should get it fixed or repaired as soon as possible. In most states, driving with a severely cracked windshield is illegal and can result in a fine. In either case, replacing the windshield is important for a few reasons:
  • A cracked windshield is a weakened windshield. Debris that may normally glance off your windshield could now pierce the windshield, posing a safety risk.
  • Visibility can be greatly diminished in some instances. Even if the crack on your windshield is on the passenger’s side, you still have to use your entire field of vision to drive safely.
Replacing a windshield typically costs between $250 and $400, so if you want some extra cheddar to pay for your repair, shop for
