Is it safe to change your own brake pads?

I’m looking for more ways to handle my routine car care at home. I was wondering if changing the brake pads would be a good thing to tackle next. Is that a fairly safe DIY maintenance project?

No—changing your own brake pads isn’t a particularly good or safe idea. It’s very easy to mount the pads incorrectly.
The baking system in your car is very precise—all the pieces (rotors, pads, calipers, etc) all need to work perfectly together to ensure that you have complete control behind the wheel. Not to mention, mounting brake pads requires expensive equipment that most people do not own. It’s usually much safer and cheaper to simply hire a professional to change the pads.
