"Is it okay to lie to a car insurance agent to get a better rate? "

There are certain discounts that my insurance company offers that would qualify me for a lower rate. Most seem unverifiable to me. Are they really going to dig into the information that I give them, or is it okay to tell lies concerning marital status and the names and ages of the people that live with me?

“While these details about your personal life may seem inconsequential to you, they help your insurance company determine the amount of risk involved in providing you with coverage.
Lying on your application is considered to be fraud, no matter how mild it may seem. The consequences can be as small as being dropped by your insurance company, or as big as owing thousands of dollars for damages after an accident because you’re denied coverage.
As far as verifiable information is concerned, you would be surprised by what is actually provable from behind a computer screen. Any personal details that you distort or omit will probably come out over time.
