I never wear my seatbelt while driving, but a friend recently told me that I could get a seatbelt ticket for this. Is a seatbelt ticket a moving violation in new jersey?

Your friend is correct—you could get a seatbelt ticket for not buckling up. However, a seatbelt ticket is not a moving violation in NJ.
- As of 2010, anybody riding in a passenger vehicle must wear a seatbelt.
- A ticket for not wearing a seatbelt will result in a fine of $46. No points will be added to your license.
- Exemptions to the NJ seatbelt law include vehicles that are not manufactured with a seatbelt system, vehicles with fewer safety belts than required for all passengers, and USPS drivers on duty.
