Is a Ford Edge an electric car or truck?

It’s time to buy a new vehicle, and my wife wants a Ford Edge, but I’m tired of driving little cars, and I want electric. She says the Ford Edge actually is a truck, but I don’t know. And I want to switch to electric, because I know a lot of car companies are going to stop producing gas vehicles. Is a Ford Edge an electric car or truck?

Great question! The Ford Edge is technically classified as a crossover SUV, and currently is gas powered. However, Ford has unveiled a new fuel cell electric hybrid concept car that could revolutionize how electric cars work.
A crossover SUV is a vehicle with increased ride height that’s built on a chassis shared with passenger cars, whereas a traditional SUV is built on a truck chassis. This construction makes a crossover much lighter, but still spacious on the inside.
The
Ford Edge
is currently a gas vehicle, but Ford has officially announced it will be
catering to the growing EV market
. Ford plans to end the Edge line in 2023 (the last model year will be 2022) so it can refit the factory that makes the Edge into an EV-only factory.
Ford has also released a look at a concept car run by electricity and hydrogen fuel cells. The vehicle would be powered by electricity for the first 25 miles, then the hydrogen fuel cell would kick in to recharge the battery. This futuristic renewable energy isn’t available yet, and was designed to show what Ford is capable of.
But, if you have your heart set on an electric truck, Ford has released the
F-150 Lightning
, its first all-electric pickup. This is the exciting continuation of the ever-popular F-Series, and shows that Ford might be going electric, but it remembers its roots.
