If I hit someone who doesn't have car insurance and refuses to pay for my repairs, what can I do?

Someone hit my car, resulting in $5,000 of repairs, but that person doesn't have auto insurance and refuses to pay me out of pocket. What are my options?

“If you want to go through your own insurance, there are several possibilities depending on the
type of insurance
you have.
Uninsured motorist coverage
covers you in the event that you get in an accident with an uninsured, at-fault driver. If you have
collision coverage
, then your company will pay for your repairs, minus your deductible.
If you don’t have the above coverages, or if you don’t want to use your own insurance, your only option is to file a lawsuit against the other party, but this could result in a lengthy and expensive legal process. “
