My wife and I are having a new driveway put in soon and want to make sure it’s wide enough for our cars to be parked single file. How wide should a single-car driveway be?

Experts recommend a single-car driveway be 12 feet wide to comfortably accommodate most vehicles and allow you to step out onto pavement rather than grass or dirt. A typical car is only about six feet wide, though. So technically, a nine-foot-wide driveway would suffice.
Anything over 12 feet but less than 20 feet is considered impractical because it is more than wide enough for one car but not wide enough for two.
Additionally, a typical car is 15 to 16 feet long, so the driveway should be at least 35 to 40 feet long to accommodate two cars parked single file.
