How reliable is a Subaru Forester?

I’m driving a Subaru sedan and I’ve had a great driving experience, but it’s time to retire it for something bigger. I’d love to stick with a Subaru and have been looking at the Forester—is it a reliable car?

The
Subaru Forester
is an excellent upgrade if you’re looking for something with more space, good performance, and solid reliability. It gets a reliability score of 3.5/5 from RepairPal and 83/100 from J.D. Power.
Paying an arm and a leg for maintenance isn’t ideal when buying a new car, and the Forester has an average annual repair cost of $632. It also hovers around average when you look at the frequency and severity of repairs.
Some of the most common issues experienced with the Forester are:
  • Air conditioning failure
  • Transmission defects
  • Excessive oil consumption
  • Check engine light sensor failure (light illumination)
Of course, most of these issues occur with older models.
Once you find your reliable car, you’ll also want a reliable insurance policy.
